Members of the 165th and 116th Medical Groups assisted Guardsmen from Florida and Tennessee as part of the Vigilant Guard disaster response exercise, May 17-23, 2013, at Camp Blanding Joint Training Center, Fla. Collaborative efforts amongst southern states tested the mettle of citizen soldiers, civilian first responders, and a mix of federal and state agencies as they responded to multiple disasters. The medical teams from the Georgia Air National Guard treated simulated injuries from role-playing victims of plane crashes, a train derailment, a building collapse, a chemical plant explosion, and two approaching hurricanes.
